Vanuatu or officially the Republic of Vanuatu (Balbsalama: Ripablik blong Vanuatu), is an island nation located in the South Pacific. Are an archipelago of volcanic origin and is located 1,750 kilometers north-east of Australia, 500 km north-east of New Caledonia, west of Fiji, and southeast of the Solomon Islands, near New Guinea.
The first inhabitants of Vanuatu are Melanesian peoples. While the first Europeans to visit the islands within the members of the Spanish Mission led by Fernandes de Quieros which landed in Espiritu Santo in 1605 in the eighties of the nineteenth century imposed France and the United Kingdom their control over parts of the country and in 1906 agreed on a framework for joint management of the archipelago on behalf of the Hebrides new. Independence movement arose in the contract in 1970 and appeared in the Republic of Vanuatu in 1980.
